A normal 27-inch screen gives you sharp 4K visuals but can feel small for cinematic games, while a 42-inch TV starts taking up a lot of desk space. The Samsung Odyssey G7 G75F sits right in that awkward middle ground: a huge 37-inch 4K screen designed to give you a more immersive, TV-like experience without becoming a full-size television.

After digging through the available testing, user feedback, technical measurements, and long-term ownership reports, this is the monitor I’d personally put at the top of my list for a PS5 Pro desk setup. It’s the combination of size and resolution.

At 37 inches, a 4K panel works out to roughly 119 pixels per inch. That’s an unusually useful middle ground. You get a substantially larger image than a 27-inch monitor while retaining a pixel density that keeps text and game detail sharp at normal desk distances.

That’s one reason the G75F makes more sense to me than simply buying the biggest screen possible. The 37-inch panel provides the cinematic scale I’d want for games such as open-world RPGs and story-driven titles, while the 4K resolution keeps the image crisp.

What really makes this monitor interesting: The 37-inch 4K combination gives you a large, immersive gaming image without moving all the way into 42-inch television territory. For a deep desk and a single-player gaming setup, that is a pretty compelling sweet spot.

The PS5 4K/120Hz Experience Is the Real Strength

The two HDMI 2.1 ports are one of the most important reasons I’d consider the G75F for a PS5 Pro setup. The monitor can accept the console’s 4K/120Hz output in supported games, giving you both the sharpness of 4K and the fluidity of high-frame-rate gameplay.

This isn’t just a number on the specification sheet. For games that offer 120fps performance modes, the difference is visible in camera movement and general responsiveness. The monitor also avoids the need for color compression when receiving the appropriate high-bandwidth signal.

Motion handling is another pleasant surprise. VA monitors have traditionally had a reputation for dark smearing, but Samsung’s overdrive tuning on this model performs extremely well. The research indicates that the G75F nearly reaches the motion clarity associated with much faster panel technologies during normal gaming.

So I wouldn’t reject this monitor simply because it’s VA. In this particular case, the VA panel’s strengths are actually very useful for console gaming.

The PS5 Settings I’d Change Immediately

The G75F isn’t quite a plug-and-play experience. There are a few settings that matter, especially if you want the cleanest VRR behavior.

Turn FreeSync Off on the Monitor

This is probably the most counterintuitive recommendation in the entire review. The monitor advertises FreeSync Premium Pro, but the research indicates that PS5 users can experience black screens, signal drops, or luminance flickering when FreeSync is left enabled.

The better approach is to disable FreeSync in the monitor’s OSD and let the PS5 handle standard HDMI Forum VRR through its own settings. With VRR enabled on the console, this produces a cleaner experience.

Leave HDR Off

This sounds strange for a premium gaming monitor, but it’s one of the clearest conclusions from the research. The G75F’s SDR performance is good enough that I would rather use it that way than force the monitor into its weak HDR mode.

Adjust the Factory Color Settings

Out of the box, the monitor runs noticeably cool, with a measured color temperature around 6700K and excessive blue/cyan saturation. For normal console gaming, changing the Color Tone setting to Warm 1 and reducing brightness is a sensible starting point.

Plan Your Audio

There are no built-in speakers. That’s easy to overlook when you’re buying a huge display for a console. You’ll need headphones through the controller, a USB wireless headset connected to the PS5, or external speakers using the monitor’s audio output.

The HDR 600 Badge Is the Biggest Problem

This is where I think buyers need to be especially careful.

DisplayHDR 600 sounds like a major advantage, but the underlying backlight architecture matters more than the certification. The G75F uses only eight large vertical dimming zones. That’s nowhere near enough control to produce the kind of precise HDR contrast you get from per-pixel OLED lighting or a much more advanced Mini-LED implementation.

Imagine a bright object appearing against a dark scene. Instead of illuminating just that object, an entire vertical section of the screen can brighten. The result is large blooming and washed-out blacks.

Important: I would not buy the G75F specifically because of its DisplayHDR 600 certification. The research consistently points toward using this monitor as an excellent SDR display and leaving HDR disabled for PS5 gaming.

That is a serious limitation, but it doesn’t destroy the monitor’s value if your priority is high-quality SDR gaming. It simply means the HDR badge shouldn’t influence the purchase decision very much.

Why the VA Panel Works So Well for Dark Games

The approximately 2970:1 measured static contrast ratio is one of the G75F’s strongest technical advantages.

VA panels can produce substantially deeper blacks than typical IPS displays. In a dark room, that difference becomes especially obvious. Nighttime scenes, caves, dark interiors, and cinematic sequences retain more depth instead of looking like dark gray areas floating above a backlight.

The trade-off is viewing angle behavior. VA panels are not as forgiving when viewed significantly off-axis, which is another reason the G75F makes more sense as a one-person gaming display than a screen shared by several people.

The 1000R Curve Is Either the Best Feature or the Biggest Problem

I can understand why gamers love the aggressive curve. Sitting directly in the center of a 37-inch 1000R display creates a wraparound effect that can make racing games, flight simulators, and cinematic games feel much more immersive.

But this is not a monitor I’d recommend blindly for mixed gaming and office work.

The research found that the extreme left and right portions of the panel aren’t perfectly uniform with the advertised curve. Those flatter edges can create a strange visual warp when text, spreadsheets, maps, or other straight-line content moves across the screen.

For gaming, I’d consider that a manageable compromise. For CAD, architecture, detailed drawing, or heavy spreadsheet work, I’d take it much more seriously.

Make Sure Your Desk Is Deep Enough

This isn’t a small monitor. With the stand attached, it takes nearly 12 inches of desk depth before you even account for the viewing distance needed to comfortably use a 37-inch curved display.

The research recommends roughly 28–36 inches of desk depth, with deeper desks being preferable. I’d take that seriously. Putting this monitor on a shallow desk and sitting extremely close defeats much of the reason for buying it in the first place.

The stand itself is excellent, with 120mm of height adjustment, tilt from -5° to 20°, and ±20° swivel. That adjustment range is particularly useful because sitting too high or low can exaggerate the viewing-angle limitations of the VA panel.

What Real Users Consistently Like

The strongest recurring positive is the unusual combination of size and sharpness. Many users upgrading from older 1080p displays or 60Hz televisions describe the jump to 4K/120Hz as a major improvement.

Users also repeatedly praise the deep blacks and cinematic appearance in SDR gaming. The 37-inch format gets especially positive reactions from people who want something more immersive than a standard desktop monitor without going all the way to a 42-inch television.

The aggressive curve is more divisive. Gamers tend to appreciate it, particularly for racing and first-person games, while productivity users are much more likely to complain about it.

Where Owners Run Into Problems

The HDR experience generates some of the strongest negative feedback. Users who expect the DisplayHDR 600 badge to translate into impressive console HDR can be disappointed when they see the blooming and gray-looking shadows.

VRR flickering is another recurring but less universal complaint. The problem is more likely to appear during large frame-rate changes, menus, loading screens, or other situations where the refresh rate fluctuates heavily.

There were also early reports of input-lag stuttering and HDMI handshake problems. Firmware updates appear to have improved these issues considerably, which makes keeping the monitor’s firmware current particularly important.

Long-Term Ownership: A Major Advantage Over OLED

The G75F uses a conventional VA LCD panel, so it doesn’t carry the permanent burn-in risk associated with OLED displays. That’s meaningful if the monitor will also be used for long desktop sessions or games with persistent HUD elements.

I’d be more comfortable choosing this display for an all-day gaming-and-work setup than an OLED if burn-in avoidance is one of my priorities.

There are still some unknowns. The research doesn’t establish how the edge-lit LED system will age over five to seven years, and the monitor hasn’t accumulated enough long-term history to provide a reliable mass-failure picture.

The Maintenance Requirement Is More Annoying Than It Should Be

Firmware updates are important because they can address VRR behavior, HDMI handshake problems, input-lag issues, and sleep-state problems. Unfortunately, updating isn’t especially elegant.

You need to download the firmware to a PC, place it on a FAT32-formatted USB drive, connect that drive to the monitor’s service port, and start the update through the OSD. It’s manageable, but definitely more technical than most console buyers will expect.

How It Compares With the Alternatives

G75F vs. Major Alternatives

Monitor

Where it makes more sense

Main trade-off

Samsung Odyssey G75F

Large immersive PS5 gaming, deep desks, high-contrast SDR

Poor HDR and aggressive curved geometry

LG C4 42″ OLED

Best HDR and cinematic image quality

Larger footprint and OLED burn-in considerations

Gigabyte M32U

Traditional desks, productivity, wide viewing angles

Smaller screen and weaker contrast

If HDR is my top priority, I’d choose the LG C4 instead. Buying

Does it support 4K at 120Hz on PlayStation?

Yes. The HDMI 2.1 ports support the PS5’s 4K/120Hz output in supported games.

Is the HDR actually good?

No. Despite the DisplayHDR 600 certification, the eight-zone edge-lit system produces severe blooming and washed-out results. The research strongly supports using the monitor in SDR instead.

Does the VA panel smear during gaming?

Much less than the reputation of older VA displays would suggest. Samsung’s overdrive tuning is one of the G75F’s stronger achievements, and motion clarity is reported to be excellent for this panel technology.

Will it fit on a normal desk?

It depends on what you consider normal. A shallow desk is a poor match. Roughly 28–36 inches of depth is recommended by the research, with more space being preferable.

Does it have speakers?

No. You’ll need an external audio solution or headphones.

Why might VRR flicker?

VRR brightness fluctuations can occur during large frame-rate changes. On PS5, the recommended setup is to disable FreeSync in the monitor’s OSD and let the console handle HDMI VRR.

What the Research Still Doesn’t Tell Us

There are two important gaps worth keeping in mind. First, an exact millisecond input-lag measurement specifically for this 37-inch model has not been clearly established in the available research, even though expert testing describes latency as very low.

Second, there isn’t enough long-term data to confidently predict how the edge-lit LED system will perform after five to seven years. That’s not necessarily a warning sign, but it is something I wouldn’t pretend the available evidence has answered.

My Final Take on the Samsung Odyssey G7 G75F

If I were building a PS5 Pro setup around a desk and wanted something substantially more immersive than a normal 27- or 32-inch monitor, the Samsung Odyssey G7 G75F would be my pick from this group.

The reason isn’t the DisplayHDR 600 badge or the 165Hz headline specification. It’s the combination of things that actually matter for this use: a huge 37-inch 4K panel, HDMI 2.1, 4K/120Hz console support, strong SDR contrast, surprisingly good VA motion handling, and a physical size that sits between a traditional monitor and a living-room TV.

The biggest thing I’d accept in exchange is the terrible HDR implementation. That’s a genuine weakness, not something I’d try to explain away. I’d simply treat this as an SDR gaming monitor and turn HDR off on the PS5.

I’d also want a deep desk and I’d be comfortable with the aggressive curve. If I planned to spend half my day working with spreadsheets, CAD drawings, or other precision content, I’d choose a flatter monitor instead.

Price changes the recommendation too. At around $550–$600, the G75F’s unusual 37-inch format becomes genuinely compelling. At its $899 MSRP, I’d have a much harder time recommending it because superior OLED alternatives become much more attractive.

Category Ratings

Category

Rating

Why

PS5 gaming

★★★★★ 4.8/5

4K/120Hz HDMI 2.1 support and strong motion performance

SDR image quality

★★★★★ 4.7/5

Excellent contrast and strong color gamut after adjustment

HDR

★★☆☆☆ 2.0/5

Eight-zone edge lighting causes severe blooming

Motion handling

★★★★★ 4.7/5

Excellent VA overdrive tuning

Ergonomics

★★★★☆ 4.2/5

Excellent stand, but demanding size and curve

Value

★★★★☆ 4.4/5

Very compelling around $550–$600, much harder to justify at $899

Bottom line: If your goal is a large, immersive 4K monitor for PS5 Pro gaming rather than a perfect all-purpose display, this is the one I’d choose.
